The Information Fusion Centre (IFC) published a new article in “Seatrade Maritime News”, which summarizes the boarding and attempted boarding incidents between the 1st of January and the 5th of July 2022.
The total number of incidents was 28 and all occurred in the Eastbound Lane of TSS within the Singapore Strait during darkness.
In most of the cases, perpetrators used small boats and approached the targeted vessels from the stern.
The main characteristics of the targeted vessels were slow-moving vessels with low freeboard.
The IFC recommends three actions for all vessels transiting the area:
· Remain vigilant.
· Adopt ship protection measures (“Regional Guide 2 to Counter Piracy and Armed Robbery Against Ships in Asia”)
· Participate in Voluntary Community Reporting (“4th Ed. MARSEC Charts Q6112 & Q6113”)
