The Directorate General of Maritime of Turkey has issued a new notification dated 31 December 2022 regarding Istanbul Strait South Anchorage Areas.
Starting from 05 January 2023 new regulations will be implemented for vessels that will use the Istanbul Strait Anchorage areas (Area A, B, and C) and Kucukcekmece Anchorage Areas (G) and details are as below:
- C Anchorage Area will be assigned to vessels that will stay at anchorage for a long period and be berthed to / departed from shore facilities. Kucukcekmece (G) anchorage area will be assigned to vessels that are carrying dangerous goods
- The vessels will not be allowed to stay at anchorage areas A, B, and C for more than 72 hours, and the vessels that intend to stay longer will be directed to convenient other anchorage areas in the Marmara Sea.
- Per the Turkish Straits Marine Traffic Safety Law, the above-mentioned anchorage areas have been used for the below purposes. Starting from 05 January 2023 the vessels should follow the new implementation.
